The FAQs About Active Adult Communities

The FAQs About Active Adult Communities

At Affinity, we get a lot of questions about what it means to be part of an active adult community, and the differences in what we offer compared to what other senior housing options include. We want to answer some common questions that you may have as you search to find your next home.

Is there a difference between an active adult community and an assisted living community?

Yes, assisted living communities are designed to help residents with daily tasks such as bathing, using the restroom, getting dressed, and eating. An active adult community, like ours, does not offer day-to-day services, but rather allows residents to live life as they see fit. These communities typically offer amenities and features that cultivate independence and convenience rather than extra services that may not be needed and are, quite frankly, expensive.

What makes a community an “active adult” community?

Communities, like Affinity, are built specifically for people who seek engagement. Whether that is through onsite amenities designed to help you stay active, or through resident activities, there is usually something for everyone. Most active adult communities feature amenities like fitness centers, pools, craft studios, and game rooms. While we offer amenities such as these, Affinity is different than other active adult communities because we encourage resident-driven engagement through community connection. We don't want this to just be a place people live. We want our residents to gain lifestyle enhancements through the connections they make with other residents. Plus, our residents never miss anything with the free MyAffinity app.

Will I lose freedom moving into an active adult community?

No way! Residents create their own schedule, choose what activities and clubs to be a part of, and live life their own way. Residents also have the flexibility to have their guests in the community and use the amenities as an extension of their own home. There is nothing restrictive about living in an active adult community. In fact, most residents feel they have gained more by living with us than by trying to do life alone.

I have heard a few communities claim to be all-inclusive. What does that mean?

All-inclusive can mean different things depending on the community. It often can include too many items that you don't actually need, which of course drives up the price point. At Affinity, all-inclusive means your rent, WiFi, utilities, TV, and access to our amenities are all rolled up in one reasonable monthly payment. It takes the guess work out of budgeting each month.
